KonMari® Method

Marie Kondo

We explain this method because our certified consultant applies it with her clients. It is the Japanese tidying expert Marie Kondo who invented, after many years of research, the KonMari® method.

This method is considered to be the most effective and sustainable approach to declutter. It changes not only the interior of your home, but also your lifestyle and habits in order to live the life you intend to live. It allows you to discover yourself and strengthens your decision-making, while asking the simple question: What brings me joy?

It is an easy and difficult method at the same time. Easy, because she is clear and applicable to everyone. Difficult, because it is a long and thorough process with obstacles to overcome.

More precise, the method consists of gathering all the things in a category, sorting them and designating a place for each thing. You will need to choose which items you want to be surrounded by, as your space affects your body, your mind and defines your life.

Here are the 6 necessary steps:

  1. Commit to tidying up
  2. Imagine your ideal lifestyle
  3. Sort before you tidy
  4. Store by category, not by location
  5. Follow the correct order
  6. Ask yourself if it brings you joy

Only the first step has to be chosen and taken by yourself. We will go through the following steps together and they will be more concretely translated into the process (1-7) mentioned below.

I will guide you so that you can focus on yourself, find what is essential for you and find your way to this well-defined and chosen direction. In addition, I will answer your questions immediately, motivate you, reassure you and, above all, give you the desire to succeed. With tidying up, you can reset your life and enjoy being surrounded by the people and things you love most.

Important: Stages 2 to 6 take place at your home and each one takes an average of 4 to 6 hours.

Introduction and tidying up 1st category: Clothes

The tidying festival officially begins with this step, which consistes first of a theoretical part and then of a practical part.

  1. Theoretical part: Discussion of your desires, anxieties, ideal lifestyle and so on, followed by a tour of your home to take a look of the situation.
  2. Practical part: We tackle the first category: clothes. This part consists of 3 steps:
    1. Gather all clothes in one place
    2. Sort and keep the ones that bring you joy
    3. Choose an appropriate place for each item

Tidying up 2nd category: Books

The same practical steps are followed for this session as for the clothes.

  1. Gather all books in one place
  2. Sort and keep the ones that bring you joy
  3. Choose an appropriate place for each book

Tidying up 3rd category: Papers

Here, too, the same practical steps are followed for this session as for clothes and books.

  1. Gather all papers in one place
  2. Sort, remembering that the aim is to reduce the amount of paper to a minimum
  3. Choose an appropriate place for each category of paper

Tidying up 4th category: Komono (Everyday items)

The same principle applies here as for the previous categories:

  1. Gather all objects in one place
  2. Sort and keep those that bring you joy
  3. Choose an appropriate place for each object

However, this time it is important to proceed with subcategories. For example:

  • Stationery items
  • Electronic goods
  • Leisure items
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Kitchen tools
  • Etc.

Tidying up 5th category: Sentimental items

This last category is more special. During the tidying festival you probably found sentimental objects. Therefore, you have to go through the following steps:

  1. Gather all sentimental items in one place
  2. Sort out and keep only those that bring up positive feelings
  3. Choose an appropriate place for each sentimental object

End of the tyding festival

Congratulations! By reading this part you have arrived or expect to arrive at the end of the tidying festival. We will finish this adventure by celebrating all the progress you have made: your personal development (for example, you will be better at making choices) as well as the transformation of your interior, which will now bring you joy. The only compulsory part is to compensate us for the service provided, and then enjoy this new discovery of ideal storage that will from then on facilitate and sublimate your daily life!

Please note: Each category may take several sessions this depends mostly on the quantity of items you possess.
